Item 4000-E Escorpion - Blanco 12/750ml
$0.00

Scorpion Mezcal® Silver

  • Gold Medal / 94 points, BTI.
  • Silver Medal, SF World Spirits Competition.
  • (100% Agave, 750 ml, 40% abv)
  • Also known as Blanco, Joven or Plata, this mezcal is the initial fresh distillate and offers the best pure expression of the agave plant.

Clear. Complex, fruit fudge and smoky nose. A soft, round entry leads to a smooth medium body with delicate lemon grass, dried fruit, and spice flavors. Finishes with a long, silky, sweet, and hot spicy finish. A velvet brick. BTI

Appearance: Clear as molten glass in the bottle- it is a beautiful thing. On swirling, it leaves a very light coating on the glass which belies its viscosity. Sitting in the glass it looks like a small puddle of sap or nectar. Quite a striking contrast to most clear spirits such as vodka.

First Impression: A dry bouquet, hints of lime, citrus, cucumber salt, and savory herbs, and on more warming: char, creosote, some spiciness, and a faint trace of balsam.

Taste: Dry and sweet at the same time somehow, lime, citrus, leather and dry smoke, almost a tannic. Light and spritely on the tongue mouth feel, whispers down the throat and then leaves a rather delicate warming considering the 80 proof with a smoky spicy aftertaste. Like a mesquite campfire, this is amazingly complex. Spirits Review

This award-winning Scorpion Silver Mezcal is artisan-made in small batches in Oaxaca, Mexico, with a real scorpion in every bottle. This version is freshly distilled and bottled without aging. The distinctive bottle comes with it's own little Scorpion Mezcal® sombrero.

  • Matured for 1 year in oak barrels.
  • BTI 95 Points

What you will experience is a fresh, nimble, nicely balanced spirit with a hint of melon flavor. FWM

Firm and slightly oily with light lime, cucumber, sea salt, and herbal aromas  and flavors; slightly bitter, leafy finish. (Santé)

Appearance: Dark amber color in the bottle. If it was maple syrup, it would be a medium amber. It is a beautiful thing! On swirling, it leaves a very light coating on the glass which belies its viscosity. Sitting in the glass, it looks like a small puddle of sap or nectar.

First Impression: Very smoky and more understated than the others. Smells like a tin of just opened sobranie tobacco, with strong Phenol and smoke.

Taste: Dry and sweet at the same time somehow, with lime, leather, oil, and smoke, and a suggestion of mint. Resinous on the tongue, and mouth feel. It whispers down the throat, and then leaves a rather delicate burn considering the 80 proof, with a smoky spicy aftertaste like a really good tobacco and spicy notes. Spirits Review

Gold. Lanolin and honey aromas. A soft round entry leads to a dry light-to medium-body with honey, grassy herbs, flax, caramel, salt, light spice. Finishes dryly with a honeyed oak barrel note. BTI

Appearance: Oak amber color in the bottle. If it was maple syrup it would be a medium amber - It is a beautiful thing! On swirling, it leaves a very light coating on the glass which belies its viscosity. Sitting in the glass it looks like a small puddle of sap or nectar.

First Impression: Smoky and more understated and delicate than the Scorpion Silver. Dry, with a bouquet of lime, citrus, and cucumber - salt, and savory herbs, and on more warming: char, creosote, some spiciness. The oak aging even at only 6 months shines through.

Taste: Dry and sweet at the same time somehow, with citrus, leather, dry smoke and lime, hints of cardamon, nutmeg. It is resinous on the tongue and mouth feel, whispers down the throat and then leaves a rather delicate warming considering the 80 proof. It has a smokey, spicy aftertaste like a mesquite campfire. This is amazingly complex stuff- very smooth and too easy-to-drink. Spirits Review

Scorpion Mezcal® Tobala Silver

Estate Grown Tobala Silver Mezcal

Callaberos Inc's, Estate Grown Tobala Mezcals are already following in the footsteps of it's cousins.  Tastings.com awarded The Estate Grown Tobala Silver 96 points, and earned a rating of "SUPERLATIVE". This superior quality mezcal takes one to new levels of enjoyment.  It is said of Caballeros Inc.'s portfolio of mezcals that they take the consumer "beyond tequila".  The two new Tobala presentations will break the surly bonds of ordinary mezcals and catapult you to a new frontier in agave spirits.

These superior quality mezcals are now ready for shipping, and your enjoyment.

Tasting Notes:
Scorpion Mezcal, Tobala varietal, erupts with fresh aromas of dill weed, kiwi and freshly mown grass, along with a moderated ashiness. Dill dominates the flavors as well, but the young and green flavors continue to green grapes, cilantro, lemongrass and anise, all overlayed with a smoky richness. Startlingly clean and fresh – a benchmark Tobala

  • Highly Recommended, Spirit Journal.
  • Platinum Medal / 96 points, BTI.
  • Superb / Highly Recommended, Wine Enthusiast.
  • (100% Agave, 750 ml, 40% abv)Rare limited edition French glass decanter with stopper

Beautiful golden amber color. Intense aromas of roasted pineapple, raw honey, vanilla, caramel, cinnamon bark, fresh herbs, and smoldering embers. A rich, lush entry leads to a massive, off-dry full-bodied palate of roasted agave, grilled pineapple, wildflower honey, oiled leather, charred oak, exotic peppercorns, and brown spices. Finishes with a long, sweet fade of toffee, peppery spice, and smoky oak. Amazingly complex, balanced, and utterly delicious. BTI

The medium amber/harvest gold color is attractive and pure. The first nosings pick up intriguing, if oddly compelling notes of quinine, burnt match and furniture polish; additional time in the glass brings out deeper scents, especially onion, brine, olives, and damp earth. The palate entry is sooty, sweet, and close to creamy; at midpalate, the taste profile turns zesty, oaky sweet, charcoal-like, and, on the whole, savory. Finishes bittersweet and caramel-like. Nice job. F. Paul Pacults' Spirit Journal

Appearance: Interesting gold / amber color in the bottle - about the same color as a bourbon (but not a scotch) of the same age. A honey oak or smokey brown color.

First Impression: Brine, phenol, mesquite sap, salt.

Taste: Brine, herbs de Provence, salt, smoke, oily, almost like duck fat cooked over a smoky wood fire- saltpeter/niter, alkali, slick mouth feel, almost paradoxical sweet/bitter and definite viscosity. Spirits Review

Caballeros Inc. recently introduced these very special, limited edition, rare bottlings of 100% agave mezcal aged in oak barrels. Besides the difference in age, Scorpion Mezcal® Reserva Añejo 5 Year is double distilled and Scorpion Mezcal® Gran Reserva Añejo 7 Year is triple distilled. Each is bottled in heavy French glass with the signature scorpion at the bottom (inside) of each hand-numbered bottle. Special super-sized scorpions were included in these unique editions to the Scorpion Mezcal® family of products.

Out of 52 tequilas and mezcals reviewed at the 2005 Beverage Testing Institute’s International Review of Spirits, both the Scorpion Mezcal® Reserva Añejo 5 Year and Scorpion Mezcal® Gran Reserva Añejo 7 Year, were awarded Platinum medals and given a score of 96 and 97 respectively. The BTI also considered both spirits to be of “Superlative” quality.

This award-winning Scorpion Mezcal® Reserva 5 Year Old is a rare limited edition mezcal in a French glass decanter with a scorpion in every bottle. This Special Reserve spends 5 years aging in oak barrels of less than 200 liters. Singel barrel bottlings of our aged products ensures premium quality mezcal.
